India, Rwanda Sign Three Agreements To Boost Bilateral Relations

India, Rwanda sign 3 agreements to boost economic and business ties have inked three agreements in the fields of
i.) innovation, ii.) aviation and iii.) visa requirements
to boost bilateral relations. These agreements were signed in Kigali in the presence of Vice President Mohammed Hamid Ansari and Rwandan Prime Minister Anastase Murekezi during a business forum meet. Vice President is the first Indian leader to officially visit Rwanda. He launched India-Rwanda innovation growth programme.
Bilateral air service agreement between two countries. Agreement for exemption of visa requirements for diplomatic and service passports. Agreement for establishment of an Entrepreneurship Development Centre in Rwanda duly financed by India,



The Union Government has announced rotavirus vaccine.

The Union Government has announced the expansion of rotavirus vaccine in five additional states under Universal Immunisation Programme (UIP). They are Assam, Tripura, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu. The announcement comes after 38 lakh children were vaccinated when the vaccine was first introduced in four states – Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. Key Facts The rotavirus is one of the most common causes of severe diarrhoea in children less than 2 years of age.
It is one of the biggest killers in children in India.
It is responsible for nearly 78,000 deaths, 32 lakh out-patient visits and nearly 9 lakh hospitalizations every year.
The vaccine will prevent Rotavirus diarrhoea in children which accounts for approximately 40% of hospitalizations from diarrhoea in India.

About Rotavirus

The Rotavirus is a genus of double-stranded RNA virus in the family Reoviridae. It most common causative agent of moderate-to-severe diarrhoea (MSD) among infants below 11 months age group and death among children less than five years of age.

Transmission:

The virus spreads from person to person due to bacterial and parasiting agents that are primarily transmitted through contaminated food or water.

Impact on Health:

It causes gastroenteritis after it damages the cells that line the small intestine and causes gastroenteritis. In some cases in causes malnutrition, delayed physical and mental development among children. About Universal Immunisation Programme (UIP)
The UIP provide free of cost vaccines to all children across the country to protect them against 11 life threatening diseases. These 11 diseases are Tuberculosis, Pertussis, Diphtheria, Tetanus, Hepatitis B, Polio, Pneumonia and Meningitis due to Haemophilus Influenzae type b (Hib), Measles, Rubella, Rotavirus diarrhoea and Japanese Encephalitis (JE). (Rubella, JE and Rotavirus vaccine are given in select states and districts). It is the largest birth cohort in the world vaccinating around 26 million children annually.



Arunachal CM Pema Khandu inaugurates Composite Regional Centre.

  • i. Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu in the presence of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju inaugurated the Composite Regional Centre at Itanagar Banquet Hall, Arunachal Pradesh on February 21, 2017
  • ii. Aim: To create resources and infrastructure required for developing services for persons with disabilities Outlay : Rs.20 Crore
  • iii. The Composite Regional Centre at Itanagar along with a creation of 17 contractual posts for it.
  • iv. The centre is established under the National Institute for Locomotor Disabilities (NILD), Kolkata of Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt. of India
  • v. Pema Khandu announced that the amount in Chief Minister’s Disability Pension Scheme of Rs 1000 per month being currently paid to the disabled person will be increased.


International Mother Language Day – February 21, 2017

  • i. The United Nations’ (UN) International Mother Language Day annually celebrated on February 21 to promote awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism.
  • ii. International Mother Language Day is announced by UNESCO on 17 November 1999 and it was formally recognized by the United Nations General Assembly in its resolution establishing 2008 as the International Year of Languages
Celebrations :
  • Promotional activities of mother language and multilingual education should be undertaken at country level.
  • UNESCO will celebrate IMLD 2017 on the theme”Towards Sustainable Futures through Multilingual Education.” in Paris, France


Researchers develop first stretchable integrated circuit using an inkjet printer

  • i. Researchers from Michigan State University announced the creation of the first stretchable integrated circuit using an inkjet printer
  • ii. The circuit was developed in the laboratory of Chuan Wang, Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
  • iii. This circuit will raising the possibility of the inexpensive production of “smart fabric.”
  • iv. The discovery of ink-fabricated stretchable circuitry was published recently in the journal, ACS Nano. Wang’s co-researchers include Le Cai, Suoming Zhang, and Jinshui Miao at MSU, and Zhibin Yu at Florida State University.
