President Ram Nath Kovind to launch Solar Charkha Mission on 27th June

President Ram Nath Kovind will launch Solar Charkha Mission on 27th of this month which will entail a subsidy of 550 crore rupees in the initial two years for 50 clusters.

Briefing media in New Delhi on achievements of his ministry in the last four years, Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Giriraj Singh said the scheme is aimed at linking five crore women and self help groups to the initiative.

Centre approves raising of two women Battalions for J&K Police to enhance female representation

The Centre has approved raising of two women Battalions for Jammu and Kashmir Police to enhance the representation of women in the State Police.

One battalion each will be raised for Jammu region and Kashmir region. Sixty percent of posts will be kept reserved for women of 10 border districts namely, Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Poonch, Rajouri, Baramulla, Bandipora, Kupwara, Kargil and Leh.

US govt clears sale of AH-64E Apache attack helicopters to India for $ 930M

US government has approved a deal to sell the Indian military six AH-64E Apache attack helicopters for 930 million dollars.

The agreement has been passed to the US Congress for approval and if no US lawmaker raises an objection, the contract will go ahead.

In addition to aircraft, the contract includes night vision sensors, GPS guidance and hundreds of Hellfire anti-armour and Stinger air-to-air missiles.


India, US agree to hold talks to address trade & economic issues

India and the US have agreed to hold comprehensive talks to address trade and economic issues. The decision in this regard was taken during a series of meetings, Commerce and Industry Minister Suresh Prabhu had with US Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross and US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer.

At the conclusion of his two-day trip to the US, Mr. Prabhu told a group of Indian reporters in Washington, that New Delhi and Washington will now work together to expand bilateral trade.

President Trump, in a press conference in Canada's Quebec City during the G7 summit, took a swipe at India along with the world's other top economies and accused New Delhi of charging 100 per cent tariff on some of the US' goods.


FIFA World Cup kicks off in Moscow; Russia to face Saudi Arabia in opener

The 21st edition of the FIFA World Cup kicks off in the Russian capital of Moscow this evening. 32 nations, divided into eight groups, will battle it out for the coveted trophy in the quadrennial month-long event.

Germany are the defending champions, with five-time winners Brazil emerging as favourites. Top shot players like Argentine Lionel Messi, Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo and Egypt’s Mohamed Salah will all be taking part in the tournament looking to guide their teams to glory.

In the opener, hosts Russia will play Saudi Arabia in Group A at 8:30 Indian Time tonight. An elaborate opening ceremony featuring star singer Robbie Williams and Russian soprano Aida Garifullina, will precede the match at the Luzhniki Stadium.


Kashmir Super 50

  • Project Kashmir Super 50 is a joint initiative by Indian Army, Center for Social Responsibility and Leadership (CSRL) and PETRONET LNG Limited (PLL).
  • It was launched on 2013 to transform the educational status of children from economically weaker sections in the Kashmir region.
  •  As part of the 11-month program, selected students are provided with complete free residential coaching for IIT-JEE, JKCET and other premier Engineering Institutes.
  • The project has equally helped the families of these youths in their growth and prosperity.
  • It is a major initiative towards bringing normalcy in the valley.
  • On similar lines of Kashmir Super 50 for engineering aspirants, Indian Army is planning to provide selected students with complete free residential coaching for National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET).

Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D)

  • Union Home Minister recently exhorted the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D) to work towards imparting training in soft skills to all the policemen in the country.
  • Ministry of Home Affairs de-merged NCRB from BPRD recently.
  • The Government of India formally established the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D), under the Ministry of Home Affairs giving a new orientation to then existing Police Research and Advisory Council (1966).
  • BPR&D was to directly participate in police functions and suggest reforms.
  • Its primary objective was to modernize police force and
