Jharkhand To Set Up Country's 1st Khadi Mall

The first 'Khadi Mall' of the country will be opened here soon, "Within 15 days, land in the Heavy Engineering Corporation (HEC) campus will be made available to the Khadi Board to develop the country's first Khadi mall.

Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das announced that the first 'Khadi Mall' of the country will be opened in Jharkhand. The land in the Heavy Engineering Corporation (HEC) campus will be made available to the Khadi Board to develop the country's first Khadi mall.

The artisans would be provided technological aid for value addition in their products, while rural, urban and tourism 'haats' will provide them markets for their goods.

UP launches ‘Commercial tax at your door steps' scheme on GST Day.

The Uttar Pradesh Government launched 'Commercial Tax at your door steps' on the occasion of Goods and Services Tax (GST) Day celebration at the offices of commercial tax on July 1, 2018.

  • The scheme will run from July 1 to August 31, 2018.
  • The facility of return filing, registration amendments and e-way bill downloading will be provided instantly and further assistance to resolve the technical issues will be provided swiftly.

    GST Diwas marked in Uttar Pradesh

    The GST Diwas was marked in Uttar Pradesh today with the state government launching a scheme under which Commercial Tax department officials will personally contact the traders to resolve their issues.

    "The 'Vaanijya Kar, Aapke dwaar' (commercial tax at your doorstep) will be implemented from July 1 to August 31. In the two month period, officials of the department will personally contact the traders and resolve their problems.

    Various processes like return filing and e-way bill downloading will be done on the spot itself and technical glitches will also be addressed".

    Its main aim is to stop the exploitation of the traders, and making the commodities available to the public at fair price.

    Dalai Lama launches ‘Happiness Curriculum’

    In what was termed a “historic” occasion, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal launched the “Happiness Curriculum” for students of nursery to Class 8 in government schools on Monday. The curriculum was launched in the presence of the Dalai Lama.

    According to the state government, the new subject was designed and prepared by a team of 40 Delhi government teachers, educators and volunteers over a period of six months.

    Students across schools can expect a ‘happiness’ period of 45 minutes. Each class will begin with a five-minute meditation session. The happiness period will also include value education and mental exercises.

    PAN-Aadhaar linking deadline extended

    Those who have failed to link PAN cards to aadhaar cards need not fret since the deadline of PAN-Aadhaar linking was extended one more time on June 30. The latest move is the outcome of an order of tax department's policy making body: Central Board of Direct Taxes, on June 30 following which the deadline for the PAN-Aadhaar linking has now been further deferred to March 31 next year. This is the fifth time that the government has extended the deadline for individuals to link their Permanent Account Number (PAN) to Aadhaar. CBDT issued an order, under Section 119 of the Income Tax Act, late night, extending the deadline.

    Haryana Government is going to host 2018 World Union of Wholesale Markets

    Haryana will host 33rd World Union of Wholesale Markets (WUWM) Conference in Gurugram from October 10-13th 2018.

  • Heads of 200 mandis from across the world will participate in this Conference.
  • Haryana State Agricultural Marketing Board will organise this conference.
  • Countries from Asia, North and South America, Africa and Europe will also participate in the conference.
  • Information related to reforms all over the world will be shared so that India could move towards a single unified world market.
  • Sathyasri Sharmila from Tamil Nadu becomes First Transgender Lawyer of India

    In a step towards the inclusion of the transgender community into mainstream society, Sathyasri Sharmila became India's first transgender lawyer.

    Sharmila, who hails from Tamil Nadu, did not have an easy journey, as she was subject to torture and abuse on account of her gender.

    Also: Ganga Kumari was appointed as the first transgender woman constable after Justice Dinesh Mehta issued the order.

    Bhitarkanika National Park Becomes Largest Habitat Of Endangered Estuarine Crocodiles

    The Bhitarkanika National Park (Odisha) has become the largest habitat of the endangered estuarine crocodiles in the country with a record number of their nesting sites spotted in it. Altogether 101 nesting sites of estuarine crocodiles were found this time by enumerators.

    The nesting spots had registered 25% rise this year. At least 1698 crocodiles, including albino species, were counted this year along the water-bodies of Mahanadi delta region, while the figure recorded last year stood at 1682.


    India Win the Kabaddi Masters Dubai 2018 title

    India clinched the Kabaddi Masters Dubai 2018 title after beating Iran 44-26 in the final. Ajay Thakur just missed out from getting a perfect 10 but he got 9 Raid points. India are the reigning world champions and they have now clinched the Kabaddi Masters too.

    This was the first time India was playing Iran since the final of the 2016 World Cup. On that occasion, in Ahmedabad, the hosts needed the heroics of veteran raider Ajay Thakur to help the team come from behind to quell the high-flying Iranians.

    Australia wins Champions Trophy 2018

    • World Champions Australia defeated India 3-1 via shoot-off after both teams were locked at 1-1 in regulation time to clinch its 2nd consecutive Champions Trophy hockey title.
    • It was the 37th and final edition of the tournament with Australia winning 15th Champions Trophy title. It was being held at Breda.
    • India won their consecutive silver medal while the Netherlands won the bronze medal.


    Tata Steel starts a JV with Germany’s Thyssenkrupp to create new Europe’s 2nd largest steel giant

    Tata Steel has agreed to the terms of a 50-50 joint venture with Germany's Thyssenkrupp to create Europe's second-largest steel company after Lakshmi Mittal's ArcelorMittal.

    The JV, which has been under discussions since September last year, combines the European steel businesses of the Indian steel major with the German firm to create Thyssenkrupp Tata Steel BV.

    The new steel company will have a total workforce of 48,000 employees spread across 34 sites.


    AGNI – V missile

    • The Agni series (I to V) missiles constitute the backbone of India’s nuclear weapons delivery and part of nuclear triad.
    • Agni-V is India’s longest-range ballistic missile which will be inducted into the nuclear arsenal soon.

    • Earlier variants of the Agni family of long-range missiles have already been deployed.
    • Agni – V is an Inter-Continental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) with a range of over 5,000 km and can reach most parts of China.
    • It is powered by three stage solid fuelled missiles.
    • It can carry a payload of 1.5 tonnes.
    • It is a part of Integrated Guided Missile Development Program (IGMDP).

    Mission Shaurya

    • ‘Mission Shaurya’ is an initiative of the Tribal department of the Maharashtra State Government.
    • It aims to train tribal students to scale Mt. Everest.
    • Recently, 10 tribal students from residential schools in Chandrapur district of Maharashtra conquered Everest.
    • Mission Shakti - Maharashtra government has also announced this mission to impart special training and prepare tribal students for the Olympics 2024.
